Ladies, please meet the new loves of my life.
If you don’t love baby chicks, then I’m not sure we can be friends anymore because – come on – look how cute they are!!!! They stand up and say “Cheep Cheep” every time I come in. It’s like they know their mama!
In no specific order:
Black one in upper left hand corner = Stark (Tony Stark, because she’s a shit disturber). She is a black australop.
Browny red one in upper right hand corner = Harriet (She’s my favourite). She is an easter egger (Heinz 57). She will likely lay blue or green eggs.
Big white one in the middle = Foghorn-Butterscotch. My nephew picked this one, he’s a rooster and I didn’t want a roo – but he looked at me with tears in those little blue eyes and begged me for him. So I have a rooster now, who he confidently named Butterscotch the Cow. However hubby vetoed that and named him Foghorn. So he is Foghorn-Butterscotch because arguing with a 2.5 year old on the name of a rooster is just not worth it. He is a leghorn – which is the best breed of layer as far as production goes. He, of course, won’t lay eggs though.
Cream coloured one UNDER Foghorn-Butterscotch = Patsy (as in Patsy Cline). She is an easter egger – she is a chipmunk coloured stripe down her back.
Black and grey striped one in the bottom = Stitch (her feathers are a hot mess and she looks homeless) She is a barred Plymouth rock mix.
Beige one UNDER Stitch = Butterscotch II (or Butterscotch the only if hubby can convince my nephew to call the roo Foghorn). She is an easter egger (she has a chipmunk coloured strip down her back).
Pretty cute eh? We thought we’d try our hand at a coop this year – something I’ve wanted to do for so long. Some of these chicks will lay blue/green eggs, the rest brown, so that should be interesting. We also plan on sending the roosters to be made into dinner (gulp, poor guys) but we might keep one depending on how noisy he is. The rest of the babies are too small to tell if they’re roosters or not but I think Patsy might be one too. Ah well, we’ll wait and see!
